Bovonic gets new funding to launch QuadSense in UK & Ireland
Bovonic has secured funding from Cultivate Ventures to support the international launch of its QuadSense mastitis screening device in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The New Zealand agri-tech firm received investment from Cultivate Ventures as part of its latest funding round, joining existing backers Pacific Channel, Enterprise Angels and NZVC. Pacific Channel led the round, which the company says demonstrates ongoing confidence from its investors.
The investment is a milestone in Bovonic's development, transitioning from its roots in New Zealand to exporting agri-tech to global markets. CEO and Founder Liam Kampshof recently relocated to the UK to oversee the business's rollout into the new region.
QuadSense is a self-installable, in-line mastitis monitoring device designed for conventional milking systems. These systems account for more than 90 percent of dairy sheds globally. The product provides real-time udder health data during milking, allowing farmers to detect mastitis early and protect both production levels and animal wellbeing.
Since its launch, over 4,000 QuadSense units have been installed on around 150 New Zealand farms. According to the company, this reflects strong demand from New Zealand dairy farmers and a track record of on-farm performance.
Kampshof said the participation by Cultivate Ventures is significant for the company's growth and validates the work already undertaken.
"The support from Cultivate Ventures is a strong endorsement of both the technology and the problem we're solving for farmers," says Bovonic Founder and CEO Liam Kampshof, who has recently relocated from New Zealand to the UK to oversee the rollout. "Dairy farmers are looking for tools that are accurate, affordable and easy to install. That's what QuadSense is delivering on farm, day in and day out."
Cultivate Ventures focuses on supporting high-growth agri-tech companies and food production technologies. Their investment will help Bovonic establish a local presence in new markets and build distribution channels overseas.
"We've been tracking Bovonic's progress closely over the past few years and are pleased to participate alongside Pacific Channel and other investors in this latest funding round," says Cultivate Ventures' Director Marcus Henderson. "Bovonic stands out as one of New Zealand's most promising agri-tech ventures, and we're excited to support Liam and his team as they continue to scale their operations domestically and start to pursue global market opportunities."
Pacific Channel, one of the main investors in this round, believes Bovonic demonstrates the potential for commercially scalable science-driven solutions that can be exported globally from New Zealand.
Dr Rob Powell, Chief Investment Officer at Pacific Channel says Bovonic exemplifies the type of scalable, science-backed innovation New Zealand can lead on globally. "QuadSense addresses a major productivity and welfare challenge for dairy farmers worldwide. This next phase shows how New Zealand-developed deep-tech can scale internationally to deliver both economic and environmental outcomes."
Kampshof also believes the new funds will help realise the company's immediate international goals. He commented, "New Zealand has been an incredible proving ground, and now we're in a position to take QuadSense to farmers in the UK and Ireland who are facing the same mastitis pressures. It's a milestone moment for us - moving from a homegrown innovation to a globally scalable solution."
Bovonic's move into the UK and Irish markets is the beginning of a wider plan for international expansion. The company intends to target additional markets following the establishment of new dealers and partners in the region.
