AI notebooks hit milestone in European sales with 50% share

Fri, 28th Mar 2025

AI-powered notebooks have reached a significant milestone in Europe, accounting for 50% of all notebook sales through distribution channels in week 11, according to recent data from global market intelligence firm CONTEXT.

According to CONTEXT analysts, this rise in AI notebook sales is largely driven by improved product availability and temporary price reductions, rather than a sharp increase in consumer interest. Antonio Talia, Chief Analyst - Business Intelligence Manager at CONTEXT, stated, "We have seen an 11-percentage point jump in just one week. This dramatic week-on-week growth reflects a spike in the availability of AI-capable systems, rather than a fundamental shift in end-user demand. In the coming weeks, we'll closely monitor whether this trend stabilizes or proves to be a short-term response to increased supply and pricing incentives."

Reviewing sales trends across different European countries reveals notable developments. Germany has regained its lead position, albeit still not reaching its February highs. The UK follows closely with a market share of 15%, and Italy's market share has slightly decreased to 9%. Additionally, the Netherlands and Switzerland each saw a modest increase of 1 percentage point, resulting in shares of 9% and 8% respectively. Belgium experienced the largest gain, increasing by 2.5 percentage points to a 5% share of the AI notebook market.

Antonio further noted developments in a more advanced segment of AI notebooks, featuring high-performance chips intended for demanding applications. He commented, "Meanwhile, a more advanced type of AI laptop – those with high-performance chips built for intensive tasks – is also gaining momentum. Sales of these systems rose modestly to 6% of the total notebook market, with business devices driving the increase. Sales of these business devices jumped 90% in a single week, pushing this segment to its highest share since January."

Intel also recorded significant progress, with its processors now present in more than half of all AI-capable notebooks sold. This success is attributed mainly to its performance in the business devices segment, which comprises approximately 74% of Intel's overall sales in this market.

CONTEXT plans to continue monitoring these developments closely to assess whether this sharp increase is indicative of a long-term trend in the market.
