Aerospike streamlines deployment of Database 8 on Amazon EKS

Today

Aerospike has released a new Terraform blueprint that automates the deployment of its Database 8 on Amazon EKS, decreasing setup time to under 30 minutes without requiring extensive expertise in AWS or Kubernetes.

The newly announced blueprint is designed to provide a comprehensive deployment of Aerospike on Amazon's Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). It incorporates infrastructure provisioning, networking configuration, persistent storage, and the deployment of the Aerospike Kubernetes Operator (AKO), all with production-ready defaults.

This solution is based on AWS's Data on EKS (DoEKS) patterns, which are open source designs that accelerate the building, deployment, and scaling of data workloads on Amazon EKS. By leveraging these established patterns, Aerospike aims to offer teams using EKS for other stateful services a more streamlined process to get Aerospike databases running in cloud environments.

Subbu Iyer, Aerospike's Chief Executive Officer, commented, "Amazon EKS is one of the most popular managed Kubernetes services. We've reduced all the friction to make it easier than ever to start and scale a production-ready Aerospike Database with Kubernetes—in the cloud and on-prem."

The Aerospike Kubernetes Operator, which is central to this deployment, automates the set-up and ongoing management of Aerospike databases across hybrid and cloud environments. The operator works in tandem with the Terraform blueprint to allow users to initiate and scale a full-stack Aerospike Database on EKS. This means tasks such as infrastructure creation, applying recommended defaults, and deploying key components are handled automatically, enabling faster adoption and reduced manual configuration.

The new blueprint configures an EKS cluster, establishes the necessary virtual private cloud (VPC) settings, and deploys the Aerospike database along with production defaults. It is intended for teams who may not have deep experience with either Aerospike databases or Amazon Web Services, facilitating easier adoption across a range of enterprise settings.

In addition to provisioning and deployment, Aerospike's Database 8 offers multi-model support, allowing organisations to use document, graph, key-value, or vector search data models within a single real-time database. According to Aerospike, the implementation can enable developers to build high-performance applications using 80% less infrastructure compared to older solutions or specialised platforms built for a single purpose.

Aerospike's database aims to simplify operations by integrating deployment, cluster management, and monitoring. This focus on reducing operational overhead is positioned as a way to let developers spend less time managing database infrastructure and more time developing new features and applications.

Organisations such as Adobe, Airtel, Criteo, DBS Bank, Experian, PayPal, Snap, and Sony Interactive Entertainment are listed among Aerospike's customers. Aerospike maintains offices in Mountain View, London, Bangalore, and Tel Aviv.
