Acronis unveils on-premises cyber protection for data control

Thu, 30th Oct 2025

Acronis has launched Acronis Cyber Protect Local, an all-in-one platform intended to help organisations maintain control over data protection, especially in on-premises and data-sovereign environments.

The new offering integrates backup, recovery, cybersecurity, and management into a single, local solution. It is designed for organisations where cloud deployment is not possible or preferred due to compliance, regulatory, or operational requirements. Among its features are a unified platform accessible from a single agent and console, built-in support for legacy systems and modern infrastructures, and built-in AI-driven automation to support anomaly detection and remediation.

Acronis Cyber Protect Local keeps all protected data within the customer's own infrastructure, ensuring full data sovereignty and facilitating compliance with regulatory requirements. The platform provides broad workload coverage, including support for Windows XP, operational technology and industrial control systems, Nutanix, Proxmox, VMware, and Hyper-V, allowing organisations to protect hybrid and mixed environments effectively.

In addition to support for legacy operating systems and modern virtualisation platforms, the platform incorporates natively integrated endpoint security and management. Features such as automated device discovery via Device Sense are intended to improve operational efficiency and reduce the complexity associated with managing multiple tools.

Migration and recovery capabilities are also streamlined. The solution allows P2V (physical-to-virtual), V2V (virtual-to-virtual), and cross-platform operations without requiring separate agent installations. This enables organisations to migrate and recover workloads across diverse environments while maintaining the same level of protection.

Sector requirements

Gaidar Magdanurov, President at Acronis, commented on the continuing importance of on-premises deployment for certain sectors. He said,

"Despite the broad adoption of cloud-based applications, there is critical infrastructure that requires on-premises deployment and protection. The systems that ensure we have access to water, electricity, technology, healthcare, and transportation are vulnerable targets for cyberattacks due to their reliance on outdated software and hardware. In 2025, over 50% of OT organisations reported at least one cybersecurity incident. Acronis Cyber Protect Local brings the power and innovation of our trusted cloud cyber protection platform directly on-premises, running on a dedicated management server within the customer's internal networks to meet strict security and data location requirements."

The platform is also presented as a measure to increase efficiency and productivity for IT professionals. By consolidating multiple protection tools into a single platform, organisations can reduce complexity and the cost of ownership. AI-driven automation and integration with security information and event management (SIEM) systems allow both IT-trained and non-IT users to respond quickly to disruptions and security threats.

The solution's capabilities include unified cyber resilience, data sovereignty within customer perimeters, comprehensive support for a range of workloads and operating environments, and self-service recovery to enhance overall resilience. Its cross-platform agility also supports seamless migration and recovery, which is especially relevant for environments with limited or no cloud connectivity.

Operational focus

With these features, Acronis Cyber Protect Local targets industries and organisations that have strict requirements for offline operation or need to comply with regulations regarding where data is stored and processed. The company highlights sectors such as utilities, healthcare, and transport, which often operate with legacy IT and OT systems and face particular challenges in updating or securing their infrastructure.

The product launch comes as organisations are under continued regulatory and public pressure to safeguard sensitive data, particularly when it comes to data location and sovereignty. The integration of recovery and self-service features is designed to help organisations maintain uptime and mitigate operational disruptions, a key consideration for organisations managing infrastructure critical to daily life and national security.

By delivering backup, cybersecurity, and endpoint management in a single platform that can be operated locally or within a sovereign private cloud, Acronis is aiming to address the needs of enterprises that either cannot - or choose not to - use public cloud services for all parts of their IT operations.

The product is positioned to serve enterprises, industrial organisations, and multi-site entities that require secure, disconnected deployment options for their IT and operational technology.
