Tricentis unveils Tosca Copilot to enhance software testing

Thu, 6th Jun 2024

Tricentis, a player in continuous testing and quality engineering, has launched a new suite of tools aimed at enhancing productivity and quality across the entire software testing lifecycle. The newly unveiled Tricentis Tosca Copilot is the latest addition to its generative AI-powered solutions, designed to simplify and expedite testing processes without compromising safety, accessibility, or responsible usage.

Tricentis Tosca Copilot marks a significant advancement in test automation. It aims to assist QA teams in efficiently locating, understanding, and optimising test assets via an intuitive chat interface. This feature is expected to streamline operations significantly, resulting in faster onboarding processes and reduced redundancy.

The Tosca Copilot introduces several key functionalities to Tricentis Tosca, a comprehensive test automation tool. Integrated directly into the Tosca Commander interface, users can interact with the Copilot using natural language. Advanced large Language Models (LLMs) and proprietary embeddings facilitate this interaction, enhancing productivity across all testing phases.

Among the initial capabilities of Tosca Copilot, test portfolio optimisation stands out. It allows users to swiftly identify unused test cases, duplicates, unlinked assets, specific executions, and tests related to particular application elements. These requests are translated into complex Tosca Query Language queries via natural language interactions, saving considerable manual effort, eliminating redundancy, and enabling non-technical users to manage assets effectively.

Another notable feature is the comprehensive test case explanation. Tosca Copilot can summarise intricate testing workflows in simple, natural language, aiding users in understanding long and complex tests. This feature is expected to boost productivity, ease maintenance efforts, and accelerate the onboarding of new team members.

Tosca Copilot offers execution insights by quickly interpreting results and providing actionable feedback. This feature is designed to help users troubleshoot issues and defects more efficiently. Faster issue resolution is anticipated to result in shorter release cycles and substantial time savings for QA teams.

The deployment of these capabilities is expected to deliver several tangible benefits. Time spent on complex testing activities can be dramatically reduced, with execution insights crucial in shortening release cycles. Additionally, productivity gains are anticipated through simplified onboarding processes and accelerated learning curves for new staff. There are also potential cost savings by minimising repetitive testing tasks, eliminating unused or duplicated assets, and reducing redundancy within the test portfolio.

Mav Turner, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Tricentis, emphasised the significance of Tosca Copilot, stating, "Tricentis Copilot offers a fully integrated solution to leverage the latest generative AI capabilities to greatly simplify testing. This user-centric experience enables users to safely and responsibly complete complex testing tasks that other general-purpose, generative-AI tools cannot."

Tricentis has already beta-tested Tosca Copilot with various organisations, including Accenture-owned ARZ Allgemeines Rechenzentrum GmbH, which reported positive outcomes. Turner noted, "The integration of AI with testing levels the playing field for all team members, regardless of technical skill level. This allows even citizen testers to play a greater role in testing for fewer errors and greater productivity, leading to faster time to market and lower costs."

The addition of Tosca Copilot follows the earlier launch of Tricentis Testim Copilot in April, which focuses on speeding up test creation and improving test code understandability. Another generative AI-powered solution for Tricentis qTest is also in the pipeline, aimed at simplifying and expediting test case generation and enhancing the user experience. Tricentis Tosca Copilot is available now, and the company is opening a waitlist for the beta program for qTest Copilot.
