Software Radio Systems unveils srsRAN Enterprise 5G solution

Today

Irish software company Software Radio Systems has launched srsRAN Enterprise 5G, a new portable and scalable software solution designed to optimise private network deployments for enterprise clients.

The newly developed software, created entirely in-house by Software Radio Systems, focuses on the needs of the private and enterprise 5G market. It aims to provide seamless indoor and outdoor connectivity across vast installations, catering to a diverse array of network users without relying on third-party components.

New features within srsRAN Enterprise 5G include RAN slicing with both dynamic and static Physical Resource Blocks (PRB) assignment, 5G New Radio (NR) Positioning, and capabilities for 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) in line with 3GPP Release 17 standards, which supports both geostationary (GEO) and low earth orbit (LEO) satellites. Additionally, the solution supports split 7.2 O-RUs, with integration and testing done across platforms from six different vendors.

Commenting on the launch, Paul Sutton, Chief Executive Officer at Software Radio Systems, said, "The way we build mobile networks is changing. Traditionally, networks have been closed, tightly integrated solutions, limiting diversity and innovation within the ecosystem. By harnessing the opportunity that Open RAN presents, we can build networks in a different way. Instead of closed solutions, we can use open interfaces, general-purpose hardware and modern software solutions that are portable, scalable and efficient."

He further noted, "This is as true for new enterprise private 5G networks as it is for the continent-wide networks SRS software is already running. The new srsRAN Enterprise 5G software stack is a game-changer, enabling customers to deploy powerful, flexible, cost-effective private network solutions using off-the-shelf hardware and open interfaces, and even customising to meet their specific needs."

The srsRAN Enterprise 5G platform is adaptable and can be executed on various compute platforms, processor types, and instruction set architectures. It is compatible with architectures including Intel (Xeon, Core), AMD (Ryzen, Epyc), ARM (Ampere Altra), AWS Graviton, Nvidia Grace, and NXP Layerscape. Its design allows it to scale from embedded systems to cloud infrastructures.

The solution can support up to 12x 100MHz 4T4R cells on platforms like AMD EPYC 8004 or Ampere Altra Q80-28, reaching speeds of up to 18Gbps for downlink and 1.2Gbps for uplink. It can also be scaled down to 1x 100MHz 4T4R on NXP LX2160A. The software is customisable for various use cases and supports Open RAN deployment with flexibility in hardware and software.

Deployment options are robust, with the capability to implement as a virtual RAN on any Linux operating system, as a cloud RAN via cloud-native functions with Kubernetes/Helm support, in small cell deployments with support for L1 SoCs through the FAPI interface, and more. This includes acceleration methods such as ACC100 and vRAN Boost integration, and fully developed front-end and baseband solutions on compatible hardware platforms such as Intel, AMD, and ARM.
