NVIDIA to power European AI push with 3,000 exaflops initiative

Yesterday

NVIDIA has outlined plans to collaborate with European nations and technology firms to develop AI infrastructure across the continent, with major deployments planned in France, Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain.

The initiative will see regional cloud and technology providers, including Domyn, Mistral AI, Nebius, and Nscale, as well as telecommunications groups such as Orange, Swisscom, Telefónica, and Telenor, working alongside NVIDIA. The planned deployments are expected to deliver more than 3,000 exaflops of NVIDIA Blackwell AI compute resources for use in sovereign AI projects.

This development aims to equip European enterprises, startups, and public sector organisations with the computing power required to securely develop and deploy agentic and physical AI applications. The work is positioned as a foundation for the continent's next industrial transformation.

NVIDIA is establishing and expanding AI technology centres in Germany, Sweden, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Finland. These centres will further research collaboration, workforce upskilling, and scientific discovery throughout Europe.

"Every industrial revolution begins with infrastructure. AI is the essential infrastructure of our time, just as electricity and the internet once were," said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. "With bold leadership from Europe's governments and industries, AI will drive transformative innovation and prosperity for generations to come."

In France, Mistral AI is partnering with NVIDIA to create a cloud platform powered by 18,000 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell systems, initially. The infrastructure is set to expand over several sites from 2026, supporting rapid development and deployment of AI using Mistral AI models and validated AI factory designs.

President Emmanuel Macron commented on the strategic significance of these investments for France:

"France is committed to investing in AI to strengthen our economy, benefit our citizens and uphold our values. By working closely with our nation's leading technology innovators and NVIDIA, we are equipping researchers, entrepreneurs and public institutions with the tools they need to explore new ideas, tackle complex challenges and help shape the future of AI for France."

In the United Kingdom, NVIDIA is collaborating with cloud providers Nebius and Nscale. The companies' infrastructure plans include the deployment of 14,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs to new data centres, supporting scalable and secure AI for enterprises throughout the UK.

UK Tech Secretary Peter Kyle said:

"Just as coal and electricity once defined our past, AI is defining our future. NVIDIA's expansion of its technology centre here in the U.K. will be vital in helping us to deliver on our AI ambitions, and their partnership in building the capabilities that will transform our AI Growth Zones into engines of opportunity. This is our Plan for Change in action, bringing together leading innovators to build the compute infrastructure that will drive growth across every region and secure the U.K.'s place as a global AI leader in the age of AI."

Germany will see the construction of the world's first industrial AI cloud for European manufacturers, using NVIDIA DGX B200 systems and NVIDIA RTX PRO Servers with 10,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs. The facilities are designed to support manufacturing applications from engineering to robotics.

In Italy, collaboration with Domyn focuses on developing national AI capabilities, including the use of Domyn's supercomputer Colosseum, built on NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Superchips. The Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, highlighted the agreement's relevance:

"This agreement represents a strategic step toward strengthening Italy's technological sovereignty and ensuring that our businesses have secure and competitive access to data management. The collaboration with top-tier partners such as NVIDIA and Domyn confirms the government's commitment in supporting high-level alliances to foster innovation and the competitiveness of the national production system."

NVIDIA is also working with telecommunications providers to create secure and scalable AI infrastructure. Orange is using NVIDIA technology to advance enterprise-grade AI, including large language models. Fastweb has introduced an Italian language AI model, MIIA, trained on NVIDIA hardware. Telenor is expanding its AI infrastructure in Norway with a renewable-powered data centre, and Swisscom is launching new AI services based on NVIDIA's DGX SuperPOD platform. Telefónica is trialling a distributed edge AI network across Spain to deliver privacy-focused AI services.

Additionally, NVIDIA's expanded AI technology centres across Europe are designed to boost skills and scientific progress. The Bavarian AI centre in Germany, for instance, will focus on digital medicine and robotics platforms. Centres in Sweden, Italy, Spain, the UK and Finland will drive research and workforce training, with their activities including the deployment of new AI factories and collaboration with national supercomputing bodies.

NVIDIA's initiatives in Europe are part of a wider global strategy to build AI infrastructure, with similar projects under way in regions including Taiwan and the Middle East.
