Logicalis reports strides in emissions cuts & sustainability targets

Fri, 13th Sep 2024

Logicalis, a global technology service provider, has reported significant progress in its sustainability initiatives according to its Responsible Business Report 2024.

The report highlights a 27 per cent reduction in scope 1 emissions since the financial year 2022 and a 17 per cent reduction in market-based scope 2 emissions over the same period.

The report's release follows the Science Based Targets initiative's (SBTi) approval of Logicalis's net-zero emissions targets earlier this year. These achievements contribute towards Logicalis's objective to decrease absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50 per cent by 2030, with an overarching aim to reach net-zero for scope 1, 2, and 3 by 2050 or sooner.

Efforts to move Logicalis towards renewable energy adoption have also made substantial headway. In FY24, 11 operations across the UK, Germany, Spain, and Australia transitioned to renewable energy sources. The company has set a target to switch 75 per cent of its global operations to renewable energy by 2025 and achieve 100 per cent by 2030. Future conversions are scheduled for operations in Portugal, Germany, Ireland, and the Channel Islands over the next 12 months.

"We believe that organisations like ours have a vital role to play in addressing climate change. We are proud of the proactive steps that we have taken, we're evolving into the responsible business we envisioned and will continue to strive for better outcomes for all our stakeholders through increasingly responsible business practices," said Bob Bailkoski, CEO of Logicalis.

"At Logicalis, we aim to make the world a better place and our commitment to becoming a net zero carbon organisation by 2050 is a significant part of that."

In addition to its internal improvements, Logicalis is focusing on its supply chain's environmental impact. The company is on track to ensure that 85 per cent of its suppliers, by spend, will have science-based targets by 2028. Moreover, Logicalis is addressing scope 3 emissions by encouraging low-carbon travel and commuting. A pilot programme in partnership with climate group RouteZero resulted in a 42 per cent reduction in group travel emissions in FY24 for a pilot group of 50 employees. Smart travel platforms will be implemented across Logicalis operations following this pilot's success.

Achieving these targets amidst commercial growth remains a challenge, as highlighted by Charissa Jaganath, head of responsible business at Logicalis.

"One of the most significant challenges we face as a business is continuing to reduce our scope emission whilst also driving commercial growth. Despite this, sustainability remains a priority at Logicalis. We understand that there is an urgent need to reduce damage to our planet, which is why we regularly assess our progress to ensure we are on the right track and maintaining momentum. We will continue to do this whilst collaborating with our colleagues and partners to ensure we collectively contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet."

The company has also directed investments towards global community projects and employee development as part of its Responsible Business strategy. Between FY22 and FY24, Logicalis invested over USD $500,000 in community projects, which particularly target improving access to STEM education and technology skills for women and minority groups. These efforts benefitted 1,400 people globally in 2024 alone.

Furthermore, Logicalis invested USD $1.9 million in employee career development, training, and accreditations. All employees underwent mandatory environmental, social, and governance (ESG) training, equipping them with practical and actionable steps to contribute towards the company's ESG goals.
