Fivetran expands integration with Microsoft Fabric & OneLake

Yesterday

Fivetran has announced the expansion of its integration with Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, adding over 700 pre-built connectors to streamline data access and interoperability for enterprises.

This development is facilitated by Fivetran's Managed Data Lake Service, which allows organisations to ingest data from a wide range of sources, automatically converting it into open table formats such as Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake. This integration offers the capability to continuously optimise performance and governance within Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, without the need for complex engineering processes.

George Fraser, Chief Executive Officer at Fivetran, stated, "Businesses today need a scalable, automated way to centralise data from hundreds of sources into a unified environment. Our expanded integration with Microsoft Fabric and OneLake allows businesses to automate complex data movement, ensuring they have reliable, real-time data to power AI, analytics, and strategic decision-making."

The relationship between Fivetran and Microsoft has proved fruitful, with Fivetran being recognised as a finalist for the Microsoft Americas Partner of the Year in 2024. This recognition was driven by a significant 51% increase year-on-year in adoption and a 200% rise in Microsoft Azure Marketplace bookings. Over 500 companies currently utilise Fivetran's automated data movement solutions to streamline ingestion, optimise costs, and create AI-ready data lakes on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake.

Dr. Michael Green, Senior Technical Product Manager at Hitachi Solutions Empower Data Platform, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, "Hitachi Solutions is excited to expand our data lakehouse capabilities by integrating Fivetran's Managed Data Lake Service on Microsoft Azure into our Empower Data Platform. This integration makes it easier for businesses to consolidate diverse data sources, reduce infrastructure costs, and build AI-ready data lakes – helping them unlock transformative insights and drive revenue growth."

The key benefits of Fivetran's Managed Data Lake Service are its ability to automate the ingestion of data from over 700 sources without complex engineering requirements. It can transform data into Delta Lake and Iceberg formats for ACID-compliant, query-ready storage, and seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, all of which can support AI, analytics, and governance while reducing infrastructure costs by optimising storage and compute for large-scale data workloads.

Dipti Borkar, Vice President and General Manager of Fabric at Microsoft, remarked, "For enterprises, having high-quality, well-governed data is essential – not just for AI and analytics, but also for security and compliance. With Fivetran's connectors integrating seamlessly into Microsoft Fabric, along with the flexibility of Hybrid Deployment, businesses can move data into AI-ready Microsoft OneLake to leverage the power of a range of capabilities while keeping sensitive workloads secure in their own environment. This gives companies the confidence to scale AI and analytics without compromising on control or compliance."

The focus on modernising data lakes and managing associated costs has been critical for many enterprises. Traditional data movement methods often involve significant expenses and complexity, requiring substantial engineering resources and infrastructure investment. Fivetran's fully-managed pipelines aim to alleviate these burdens by automating ingestion, optimising compute usage, and eliminating the need for manual maintenance, allowing businesses to load, govern, and analyse data efficiently.

Jordan Berry, Chief Executive Officer at Interloop, highlighted the benefits of partnering with Fivetran, "Interloop has partnered with Fivetran because it has simplified our data engineering processes, allowing us to focus on delivering business outcomes instead of managing infrastructure. Fivetran's Managed Data Lake Service seamlessly loads data into Microsoft Fabric in Delta Lake format while reducing ingest query compute and automating table maintenance. This lowers our total cost of ownership and increases revenue by allowing us to focus on what truly matters – delivering value to our customers."
