Colt DCS expands hyperscale services with new West London site
Thu, 18th Apr 2024

Colt Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) has proclaimed plans to develop its hyperscale services by purchasing land in Hayes, West London. The intended new site will serve as an expansion to the current Hayes facility, enhancing the Information Technology (IT) capacity of the entire complex.

This esteemed organisation is globally recognised for its provision of hyperscale and large enterprise data centre solutions. The endeavour of land acquisition next to its existing site at Hayes is an initiative to meet the rising customer demand. Upon its expansion, Colt DCS’ Hayes campus is poised to become one of the UK's largest.

The elevated rate of adoption of public cloud by UK businesses makes West London a prime development location for data centres. The city's standing as a leading financial, media, and business centre worldwide continues to aid businesses seeking growth in the UK and Western Europe.

The development of Colt DCS’ initial Hayes site is progressing rapidly. It will include two buildings on the first site, providing 60MW of IT power, with the first phase due for completion in Q3 of 2025. This hyperscale data centre provider has reported significant interest from its existing customer base to occupy space within the first site. The company's international presence and potential to provide sites with space and power expansion pique the interest of its hyperscale customers, enabling them to meet their strategic growth objectives.

The proposed expansion for a second site will significantly increase the capacity of the London Hayes Data Centre campus, making it one of the UK's largest and largest multi-building data centre campus in Colt DCS' global estate. Along with the purchase of land, Colt DCS has importantly secured renewable energy power, a crucial component in delivering the capacity the new site requires.

Expansion plans aim to create a sustainable hyperscale data centre future. This initiative supports the increasing demand for capacity for large-scale, high-density AI workloads. The new site will enhance the social and economic environment of the local community, participating and organising in educational, employment, business trade, and supply chain programs.

Reflecting on the expansion, Richard Wellbrock, Chief Commercial Officer at Colt DCS, said, “There is continued strong demand from customers for UK-based hyperscale data centres, driven by continued growth in demand for digital services. To cater for the fast-paced world of digital services, customers require scale in their data centre solutions."

"We are also excited to learn about the UK Government’s plans to take the digital economy to the next level in the global marketplace, and our expansion in Hayes will increase the UK’s capacity and capability in creating a vibrant environment for growth. We are committed to create a lasting sustainable impact on the local communities near our facilities and remain a trusted partner for our customers worldwide.”
