Checkmarx appoints Scott Gainey as Chief Marketing Officer

Today

Checkmarx has appointed Scott Gainey as its Chief Marketing Officer to lead the company's global marketing activities as it pursues new growth strategies in the application security sector.

Gainey steps into the Chief Marketing Officer role with responsibility for global marketing strategy, branding, messaging, communications, demand generation, and partner marketing development. His remit also covers the alignment and execution of sales and partner engagements to expand Checkmarx's business and customer value proposition.

Leadership perspective

Sandeep Johri, Chief Executive Officer of Checkmarx, highlighted the company's ambitions for business growth and the rationale behind Gainey's appointment. Johri stated,

"Checkmarx is hyper focused on aggressive growth, so Scott's history of success and scale in leading marketing in high-growth companies will be an important component of our continued growth and success. As a company, Checkmarx is in a uniquely strong position with a solid foundation of innovative, market-leading products and a fully engaged worldwide team. With Scott's leadership driving the brand and demand, Checkmarx is poised to continue leading the application security industry well into the future."

Gainey brings more than two decades of experience in marketing leadership to Checkmarx. His previous roles include Chief Marketing Officer and senior positions at several technology firms such as Palo Alto Networks, SentinelOne, Cisco Security, and NetApp. In his most recent position at Nile, he was Chief Marketing Officer and led the go-to-market strategy for a solution that offered enterprise networks as a service, with an emphasis on AI networking architecture and zero-trust security.

Background and expertise

Gainey holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University, Humboldt. He has also studied business and leadership at Stanford Graduate School of Business and at the Thayer Leadership Development Group at West Point. His experience is expected to contribute both to Checkmarx's brand positioning and its go-to-market strategy as the company addresses increased demand for application security solutions driven by artificial intelligence and cloud technologies.

Industry context

Application security has become a growing area of focus for businesses seeking to protect digital assets and ensure software integrity amid evolving cybersecurity threats. Checkmarx provides AI-driven, cloud-native solutions, and, according to the company, serves enterprise clients across the globe. Its platform, Checkmarx One, is designed to support large-scale development organisations and reportedly scans more than six trillion lines of code annually.

Market interest in autonomous application security approaches has grown as companies transition towards hybrid development models utilising both human and artificial intelligence elements. The company indicates that its technology assists development teams by providing real-time scanning and automated remediation, aiming to enhance productivity on security-related tasks.

Gainey's outlook

Scott Gainey commented on his decision to join the company and his focus in the new role. He said,

"It's such an exciting time to be joining Checkmarx as our agentic AI for AppSec vision is redefining enterprise application security. I look forward to collaborating with the entire team to ensure that our impact in securing the code that drives global business is well understood in the market. With a large and thriving customer base and the right combination of innovation and support, Checkmarx will continue to lead and to ensure the success of the global companies we serve."

The company's leadership believes that the addition of Gainey will support efforts to scale business operations and enhance client engagement as demand rises for application security platforms capable of handling increasingly complex development environments.
