Catena cloud platform launched to streamline UK telecoms ops
Dotlines UK has launched Catena, a cloud-based platform aimed at streamlining operations for broadband and internet service providers.
Rocket Fibre and Carnival Internet UK, both UK-based internet service providers, have already adopted Catena as part of their operational infrastructure.
The platform is intended as an all-in-one solution for broadband and ISP operators and seeks to address the challenges associated with using multiple disconnected systems, tools, and outdated back-office software. Its features include automation, API integrations, and a centralised product catalogue, all designed to facilitate the management of day-to-day business through a single platform.
The system automates various key processes, offering providers a means to accelerate tasks such as customer onboarding and new product launches. Customers benefit from enhanced self-service options, while operators gain a scalable solution that is in line with changing regulatory expectations, including upcoming requirements around One Touch Switching, PSTI compliance, and the planned decommissioning of the UK's traditional PSTN network.
An increasing number of smaller and mid-sized telecom operators have struggled to scale operations, given the prevalence of manual processes and challenges associated with multiple suppliers and cashflow constraints. The rise in alternative network providers offering wholesale services has increased the complexity faced by these operators. Catena is presented as a tool to automate processes, reduce inefficiency, and improve experiences for both customers and employees.
Rocket Fibre, a broadband provider based in Northamptonshire, has implemented Catena in support of its growth objectives. The company faced the dual pressures of upcoming Ofcom regulations and a need to modernise its legacy systems. To address this, Rocket Fibre opted to adopt Catena as a single platform to update and futureproof its operations.
Tom Sanders, CEO of Rocket Fibre, commented, "Catena has given us the foundation to scale with confidence. We needed a solution that would transform how we work, and with Catena, we're not just compliant and efficient, we're ready for the future of telecom."
The Catena development team collaborated with Rocket Fibre to map its operational needs, identify integration partners, and oversee the migration of customer data to the new platform. This transition is expected to enable Rocket Fibre to automate much of its back-end work, expand customer self-service tools, and quicken the introduction of new services.
Jaki Chowdhury, CEO of Dotlines UK, said, "Rocket Fibre is a great example of the type of operator Catena is built to help. They had the ambition to grow but were being held back by disjointed systems. With Catena, they can be compliant and future-ready with the flexibility to scale far beyond what was possible before."
Security and compliance are positioned as central features of Catena, with all user and operational data hosted in high-availability data centres within the UK to ensure data sovereignty. The platform has also been developed in line with sustainability practices, including a carbon-neutral cloud infrastructure and a commitment to tree-planting initiatives supporting Dotlines UK's biodiversity efforts.
Jaki Chowdhury, CEO of Dotlines UK, commented, "Catena is built to remove the complexity from telecoms operations. Many operators are stuck with disconnected, outdated systems that limit their growth. Catena brings everything together in one place, making it easier to run an efficient, customer-focused business. Our goal is to help telecoms providers serve more customers with less effort while unlocking new opportunities for growth."
"As competition in the UK telecoms market intensifies, operators need the right technology to remain competitive and scale effectively. Catena offers a futureproof solution that not only enhances efficiency but also enables operators to stand out by delivering exceptional customer experiences."
