Canva unveils AI-powered Dream Lab amidst major growth

Today

Canva has announced a series of new products and features aimed at transforming visual communication in workplaces, coinciding with the platform's growth to 200 million monthly active users and $2.5 billion in annualised revenue.

Known for its all-in-one design platform, Canva has expanded its offering by unveiling the Dream Lab, a generative artificial intelligence tool powered by Leonardo.Ai. Dream Lab is designed to enable the creation of dynamic images and graphics from simple text descriptions. The tool leverages Leonardo's advanced Phoenix model combined with Canva's extensive asset library.

Melanie Perkins, Canva's Co-Founder and CEO, highlighted the significance of reaching a broad user base: "We're incredibly excited to now be empowering more than 200 million people in nearly every country across the globe. From over 95% of the Fortune 500 to millions of small businesses, classrooms, and nonprofits, it's certainly an exciting milestone but we feel we're still just 1% of the way there."

Canva's user base extends across various sectors, with large organisations such as the NYSE, Atlassian, and HP adopting Canva Enterprise to enhance their content creation processes. Perkins added, "As we double down on empowering everyone to turn their ideas into designs, we're introducing dozens of new features across our Visual Suite at the intersection of creativity and productivity. From more interactive designs to a suite of AI-powered upgrades, we hope these new features help our community to continue achieving their goals."

The Dream Lab tool offers numerous features including the ability to generate images in more than 15 styles, utilise existing images as style references, and create detailed multi-subject images. This development comes just months after Canva acquired Leonardo.Ai, signalling its commitment to integrating advanced AI capabilities into its platform.

Canva's Visual Suite has also received significant enhancements. In the two years since its launch, the suite has facilitated the creation of 2.5 billion presentations and a substantial number of documents and videos. Recent updates include AI-powered whiteboards, upgraded Magic Write technology, and new data chart types.

Canva's interactions with content creators have been bolstered through partnerships with creative powerhouses like Artlist and Pocstock, expanding available templates, video assets, and stock photography.

The new product launches and features are part of Canva's broader efforts to ramp up its capabilities in visual communication, as seen in its expanded presence in the UK market. This is marked by new building acquisitions in London and the launch of their "Design Against Dull" campaign aimed at reimagining workplace creativity.

Canva continues to focus on enhancing its offerings for specific user groups with the expansion of Work Kits, providing tailored resources for small businesses, teachers, and students. These comprehensive sets include templates and tools designed to meet the visual communication needs of various industries.

The company's commitment to AI safety is reflected in their integration of Canva Shield, ensuring that the use of Dream Lab complies with industry standards for responsible AI deployment.
