Apricorn, Every Child Online to boost safe tech donations
Apricorn and Every Child Online have announced a collaboration to promote data security and reduce the digital divide for disadvantaged young people and families in the United Kingdom.
The partnership brings together Apricorn, a manufacturer of software-free, hardware-encrypted USB data storage devices, and Every Child Online, a UK-based charity dedicated to giving refurbished IT equipment to those lacking digital access.
With millions of electronic devices discarded each year, both organisations are seeking to educate both businesses and individuals about the importance of secure data wiping and storage before donating or disposing of old technology.
Every Child Online operates with the goal of ensuring that all children have access to digital opportunities. It achieves this by securely sanitising and reusing donated IT equipment, providing essential access to technology that supports education and connection for children. Apricorn will support the charity's efforts by offering advice on responsible data management prior to device donation.
"Partnering with Apricorn at Infosecurity Europe 2025 is a powerful way to combine our missions, protecting sensitive data and protecting young lives. Donating unwanted tech, when done securely, can ignite a spark in a child's future, whether through education, creativity, or even a tech career. With Apricorn's support, we're not only closing the digital divide, we're setting a new standard for secure, responsible device reuse," Mike Tarbard, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Every Child Online, explained.
As part of their collaboration, Apricorn and Every Child Online will hold a prize draw during the first two days of Infosecurity Europe, with attendees eligible to win one of ten Aegis Padlock 3 encrypted portable drives. The competition is open to those who visit Every Child Online at stand F162 and leave a business card in the entry bowl, with five winners selected at the end of each day. Winners will be announced on the social media channels of both organisations.
"At Apricorn, security and social responsibility go hand in hand. We're honoured to support Every Child Online's incredible mission to ensure no child is left behind in today's digital world. Their work transforms donated technology into educational lifelines for young people who would otherwise go without. However, individuals and organisations must understand the importance of securely wiping and storing sensitive data before donating devices. That's where Apricorn can help, empowering donors to protect their information while giving children the digital access they deserve," Jon Fielding, Managing Director, EMEA, Apricorn, said.
Apricorn representatives will also be available at stand F135 to provide further detail on hardware-encrypted storage devices and to assist organisations with best practices for secure data wiping and responsible disposal of outdated technology. The team will deliver practical guidance on topics including the secure wiping of data before repurposing or recycling devices, the relevance of hardware encryption for safeguarding sensitive information, managing data on removable media and external storage, and applying the 3-2-1 backup rule for robust backup and data protection strategies.
Visitors to the event are encouraged to bring unused IT equipment—such as laptops, desktops, and tablets—to Every Child Online at stand F162. These donations will assist the charity's mission to supply essential technology to children and families most in need of digital access.
