Hyve cuts downtime with Opengear smart network management rollout

Thu, 16th Oct 2025

Hyve Managed Hosting has deployed Opengear's Smart Out of Band management solutions across 35 global sites to reduce network downtime and speed up response times.

Hyve Managed Hosting provides managed hosting and cloud services with operations extending across Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa. The growing complexity of operating such a distributed network gave rise to new operational challenges, particularly around access and management without onsite staff.

Network challenges

Before introducing Opengear's solutions, Hyve's engineers faced issues such as the risk of being locked out of remote network devices due to configuration errors. Resolving such problems could require physical presence, presenting delays and increasing the risk of service disruption for Hyve's clients.

To address these challenges, Hyve sought a secure, reliable remote connectivity capability that could support all stages of network management. This included support for initial provisioning, configuration changes, upgrades, and ongoing fault diagnosis, even during network outages.

Implementation and solution

Hyve selected Opengear's remote management solutions, including the ACM7000 and IM 7200 models equipped with 4G LTE failover functionality. This provided an additional layer of resilience, enabling persistent, secure access to essential infrastructure in scenarios where primary network connections failed.

"Having Opengear's out-of-band solution in place has been invaluable for our team. Knowing we can access our network devices from anywhere gives us peace of mind and allows us to support our global infrastructure effectively."

This was shared by Roberto Bello Hurtado, Technical Team Lead at Hyve, reflecting on the impact since the deployment.

The process sees all Opengear devices configured at Hyve's UK headquarters before being rolled out worldwide. This centralised model allows for consistent configuration, reduces reliance on in-country technical support, and ensures quicker fault resolution for any of the company's global sites.

Benefits realised

The adoption of Opengear's Smart Out of Band management has delivered several tangible benefits for Hyve. The company reports a "massive reduction in downtime" alongside significantly faster response times for troubleshooting and resolving network incidents. The ability for engineers to address issues remotely, without the need for local physical intervention, has streamlined operational efficiency and created cost savings.

Patrick Quirk, President and General Manager at Opengear, commented on Hyve's approach to network resilience:

"Hyve runs a global business where downtime is not an option. By deploying always-on, secure remote management, they put resilience at the centre of their growth strategy. As the industry faces rising outages and greater complexity, Hyve is not reacting. They are leading. At Opengear, we are proud to give them the tools to stay ahead."

Future outlook

Looking forward, Hyve intends to further enhance their network management capability with additional software from Opengear, specifically Lighthouse. This solution is expected to offer deeper centralised control and visibility as the company expands further, particularly in the US market.

The Lighthouse software will add to the resilience and efficiency of Hyve's operations, supporting the organisation's requirements for security, scalability, and ongoing service continuity as they scale their managed hosting and cloud services globally.
